Maurel Sellier

A French artisanal workshop specializing in the manufacture of custom-made saddles, Sellerie Maurel combines tradition, high standards, and expertise.

THE WORKSHOP HISTORY

Founded nearly 40 years ago, Sellerie Maurel carries on the tradition of French saddle-making, with expertise passed down from father to son. Based in Mirande, in the Gers department, the workshop has grown while remaining true to a single standard: crafting handmade saddles designed to last and to accompany the rider-horse partnership over time.

True to its roots, Maurel continues to produce its saddles by hand, supported by a team of skilled artisans and trusted French partners, such as Arçonnerie Française and traditional tanneries. It is a story of craftsmanship, tradition, and passion—rooted in the region and dedicated to excellence.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Animal welfare

At Sellerie Maurel, the horse’s well-being is at the heart of every decision. Because a horse’s comfort affects its movement, performance, and longevity, each saddle is designed to respect the anatomy and function of the back.

From the custom-made tree to the design of the panels, including the selection of memory foam, everything is carefully considered to ensure even pressure distribution, optimal shock absorption, and a long-lasting fit that respects the horse.

Expertise & Tradition

For nearly 40 years, Sellerie Maurel has been carrying on a tradition of artisanal craftsmanship passed down from father to son, in keeping with the great tradition of French saddlery.

Each saddle is handcrafted in our workshop in Mirande by a team of skilled artisans, where every step counts. This mastery of traditional techniques allows for rigorous oversight of every stage of production and guarantees durable, precise, and perfectly fitted products.

Innovation

Recognizing the constant evolution of equestrian sports, Sellerie Maurel combines artisanal craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.

Our saddles are equipped with custom-made tree frames designed using a digital tensioning process, calculated based on the rider’s weight and riding style. The panels and seats are designed using memory foam selected from among 21 different densities, providing shock absorption of up to nearly 90% and optimized transmission of the rider’s aids, all to enhance the performance and comfort of the rider-horse partnership.

Made in France

Based in Mirande, in the Gers, Sellerie Maurel designs and manufactures its saddles in France, in its own workshop.

Committed to local and responsible manufacturing, the company works with trusted French partners, such as Arçonnerie Française and traditional tanneries, to ensure the quality of materials and the traceability of its products. This reflects a strong commitment to exacting and sustainable French craftsmanship.
